CAMEROON PRIMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY
Who are we?
CPS is a group of researchers, professionals, students, administrators in the field of forestry, wildlife, environment and nature conservation, and experts working in the field of primatology in Cameroon, that have agreed to set up a framework for collaboration, consultation and exchange in the form of an association to mark their firm engagement to the primates conservation course.
Our mission
The CPS has as mission to contribute to the improvement of the conservation status of primates in Cameroon through research, education, documentation and information, habitat protection, advocacy and advices and other scientifically-based, accepted and sustainable practices.
CPS objectives
Updating and establishing a database on primates at the national level and, producing and consolidating documentation on primates in Cameroon in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of forestry and wildlife
Monitoring and revising the conservation status of primates in Cameroon in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of forestry and wildlife
Facilitating the enhancement, sharing and dissemination of research results on primates in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of forestry and wildlife; at the local, national, regional and international levels
Inspiring students from various higher education institutions to gain an interest in the conservation of primates
Providing academic and professional support to students and young professionals who wish to work on primates
Providing advice to decision-making bodies, including local zoos keeping primates, in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of forestry and wildlife
Carrying out fundraising, advocacy and lobbying activities to finance research on primates and their habitats in Cameroon
Establishing itself as a host organization for local, national, regional and international gatherings concerning primates
Supporting international primate conservation initiatives in Cameroon and representing the country in these initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of forestry and wildlife
Facilitating collaborative interactions with other nature conservation platforms to maintain high values for primate conservation nationwide
Conducting research work on primates in and outside of protected areas
Contributing to the development of expertise on anti-poaching policies and other related primate conservation instruments
